The Bark Market is a store for pets and their owners that has been operated by locals since its inception. The store began as Horse & Hound Pet Supply & Saddlery in 1987 in Lake Geneva, owned by Cindy Skarda. Though no longer store owner, Cindy’s passion continues to inspire The Bark Market . As the retail world changes so do we:
- Moved to Highway 50 in Delavan in 1996
- Changed the name and product selection in 2006 to focus on dogs and cats
- Changed our logo in May 2014 to better fit our business and launched a new website
- Relocated to 5574 Highway 50 on May 1st 2021!
We continue to be committed to the area and its pet loving population, continuing to serve many of the same families who shopped at Horse & Hound. We are grateful for the support and loyalty of generations of customers. We hope to continue empowering, enlightening, and educating pet parents for many years to come.
History of The Bark Market
Cindy Skarda, started it all when she opened the business in 1987. The store offered grooming and training and sold dog and cat products, horse tack, and apparel. In 1995, the store changed hands to the present ownership.
Cindy is a lifelong animal lover and a skilled and patient trainer. Cindy worked at a veterinary clinic and had a broad knowledge of canine health and related issues. Her focus and philosophy to help create a well-mannered, obedient dog that you and your family can enjoy for a lifetime remains the core of The Bark Market training philosophy.
Cindy and her family moved south, but the boundless energy and passion she inspires remains.
